Case Study

Icebreakers is a weekly self-help, mutual support group for gay and bisexual men who are either ‘just coming out’ or are new to Manchester or are feeling isolated for whatever reason.

The group is facilitated by a dedicated team of volunteers and it meets every Wednesday evening in premises that enable our service-users to meet others in a safe, confidential and mutually supportive environment. Meetings are informal and relaxed - allowing guys to mix and mingle. Meetings are from 8 to 9:30 pm, and are followed by a visit to a local bar for those that are interested.

Icebreakers has gained significantly from the consistent support we have received from Manchester Pride and its Community Grants scheme. Knowing that some of our core costs will be covered enables the volunteers to develop and maintain our high level of services that has seen our user numbers more than double over the past few years to over 160 individuals per year.

Our group is open to anyone who fits the criteria mentioned before. Anyone can check out our website for more information or e-mail us if you aren't too sure we are for you.
