Digital Accessibility: Manchester Pride introduces Recite Me toolbar online

Manchester Pride is committed to improving communication and quality of service for the LGBTQ+ community and allies, ticket holders and our employees, and we are proud to introduce Recite Me accessibility and language tools online. Recite Me helps us to ensure that website visitors can access online content and services barrier-free, in a way that best suits their needs.

As part of our equality, diversity and inclusion strategy, website visitors are now able to access a wide range of tools to customise their digital experience using Recite Me assistive technology. 

Being able to offer an inclusive online experience for our communities is essential. Recite Me helps 1 in 5 people in the UK who have a disability, including those with common conditions like sight loss and dyslexia, access our website in the way that suits them best. It also meets the needs of the 4.2 million people in the UK who speak a language other than English at home, by translating our web content into over 100 different languages.

What is Recite Me?

Recite Me is an innovative cloud-based software that lets visitors view and use our website in a way that works best for them.
Recite Me’s assistive technology makes websites accessible and inclusive through a unique range of features. This easy-to-use, award-winning software includes text-to-speech functionality, fully customisable styling features, reading aids, and a translation tool with over 100 languages, including 65 text-to-speech voices and many other features.

This software benefits millions of people who currently miss out on online and mobile content. The best part is that Recite Me works across all devices, allowing everyone to use the internet in the way that it is intended.

How do I access the Recite Me toolbar?

You can open the Recite Me Accessibility Toolbar by clicking 'Accessibility tools' in the navigation menu, in the top right corner of the Manchester Pride website. This button now appears in the top right corner of every page of our website.

After you click 'Accessibility tools', the Recite Me toolbar opens and displays a range of different options for customising the way the website looks and ways you can interact with the content.

You can use it to:

• Read website text aloud (including PDFs)
• Download the text as an MP3 file to play it where and when it suits you
• Change font sizes and colours
• Customise background-colours
• Translate text into more than 100 different languages
• Access a fully integrated dictionary and thesaurus
