We have an exciting opportunity for trans and non-binary individuals in Greater Manchester.
More than existing: A depiction of trans love is a trans-run project which aims to show the beauty in trans connections. Developed by two trans members of the Manchester Pride Team, Chlo and Jaz, the aim of the project is to show the love, acceptance and admiration trans and non-binary people have for themselves and one another, through their relationships.
We are looking for trans and non-binary individuals people to discuss their relationships and share their connections through the medium of photography and audio interviews. The aim of the project is to give transgender people the platform to talk about and celebrate the positive impact of transness on relationships that are often overlooked in mainstream media. We aim to showcase various relationships from romantic, platonic and family in all their wonderful forms, highlighting the connections that makes people feel seen, loved and accepted as a trans person.
This process will involve a photography shoot with Chlo, our trans photographer, and an interview with Jaz. Shooting and interviews for this project will take place between 29th September to 28th October.
These images capture the queer relationship of Jaz (they/them) and Sim (he/him). This work shows the beauty of the trans experience. In this image on the right, Sim is assisting Jaz to take off their binder, a daily task they do together.
Speaking about the project, Chlo shares their inspiration: “The series is going to be a powerful depiction of trans love in all its forms. Before I came out I was so fearful of labeling myself as trans because I didn’t know what that would look like and how it would feel. I would love to have seen this project back then, at a time I needed it most. Hopefully, this body of work will be seen by others who need reassurance of the beauty of being trans as an alternative to the negativity and debate on our existence.”
